This Blue Flatweave Kilim is handwoven by the artisans of the High Atlas Mountains and specifically Anzal Village which is 30 kilometers north of the popular weaving town Taznakht. Flatweave rugs are thin, soft, strong and full of symbolism. They’re also called “hanbel” or “aknif” in Morocco. Every design element comes entirely from the artisan’s imagination - the symbols within this rug depict protection from evil, strength, beauty and respect just to name a few. All of our flatweave/hanbel rugs are made in the south of Morocco, which produces the highest quality flatweaves.
